Wrestling with written work?
Let me lend a hand.
You bring the project
Maybe it's a grant proposal for a multi-year research project. Or maybe it's a cookbook, or a newsletter, or a children's story. Whatever it is, sometimes you need to rework structure or fill gaps in content. Sometimes you need to tighten up a slow or confusing section. Sometimes you need to be darn sure you haven't missed a typo and all your apostrophes are in the right place. Sometimes, you don't know what to do.
I'll bring the editing expertise
I can help you figure out what the project needs. Whether its developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, or something in between, I'll dive in and sort it out. I'm an experienced editor and professional storyteller comfortable working with academic manuscripts, narrative non-fiction, and creative writing alike. Multimedia? Sure thing. If words are involved, I'll be an asset to your project.
A proven track record
I've spent more than a decade working to help writers hone a range of academic and creative work.
As a freelancer, I've directly improved the writing and overall presentation of dozens of pieces. As Senior Editor at the peer-reviewed Journal of Caribbean Ornithology, I also worked behind the scenes to overhaul the entire publication pipeline, including creating guides and checklists for each stage of the publishing process. Meanwhile, I led the journal's copy editing team.
Here's a smattering of the projects I've propelled to fruition. My contributions range from major restructuring and content editing, to purifying messy grammar and wording, fact-checking, and proofreading the nitty-gritty details.
• National Science Foundation grant application to fund the development of an innovative hydropower technology
• Numerous research papers published in various peer-reviewed scientific journals — topics covered range wildly
• Graduate school and job applications: personal statements, letters of interest, project proposals, etc.
• A non-fiction travel memoir book proposal
• Evidence for a court case challenging the construction of a new airport
• A personal essay published in an anthology centered on the world's changing climate
